--Within the subfamily Panicoideae, the genus Cenchrus distributed in both tropical and subtropical regions around the world, is one of the most important regarding economic and productive aspects. In order to broaden the information and the set of available genome data, kikuyu grass (Cenchrus clandestinus) plastome was sequenced, assembled and annotated in this investigation, the genomic organization, the arrangement of the genes and their phylogenetic relationship with other species of the Poaceae family were compared using 81 protein coding genes. In general, results show a structure and organization conservation compared to other references of the Poaceae family. Phylogenetic relationships confirmed the position of kikuyu within the genus Cenchrus and is congruent with previous results obtained with other species of the subfamily Panicoideae.
