Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Brockport physical fitness test battery in children and youngsters with intellectual disability
Resumen
For professionals working with disabled people it is indispensable to know the physical fitness of disabled children and youngsters, in order to generate programs fitting their needs. To that end, the people¿s characteristics need to be known based on tools validated in Spanish language. Objective: Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Brockport physical fitness test battery in children and youngsters with disability. Materials and method: Cross-cultural adaptation and contents validity by experts to provide evidence of Brockport applicability to the disabled population. Translation and re-translation were done by sworn bilingual interpreters; they were submitted to a group of experts for proving the linguistic understanding, with the corresponding adjustments to the Spanish language. Results: Translations from English into Spanish and from Spanish into English were obtained that demonstrated linguistic coherence in Spanish, agreement levels were reached by the experts assessors regarding the items with percentages between 89,46 and 100%. Conclusion: The validation of the assessment tools for disabled people are the basis for generating physical activity programs adapted to the peoples¿ abilities, and allow the health care, education and sport and recreation organizations making decisions regarding pedagogic and didactic activities that contribute to health of children and youngsters with disability.
