The purpose of this document is to describe the fundamental elements that include the research project for the doctoral thesis. This proposal presents the research problem, the research hypothesis, the system of objectives and the research methodology, among others. The research problem has been addressed towards a conceptual model of logistical coordination for emergency and disaster preparedness. It was based on a research idea which has been delineated through a literature review in specialized databases, as well as the revision of the documents and regulations related to disaster risk management in the region under study. The literature review allows for the identification of both the importance of the pre-disaster stages in the humanitarian logistics context and the need to strengthen the coordination of the actors involved in these operations. From the research problem definition and the statement of the knowledge gap, a research hypothesis, a system of objectives and a methodological strategy have been defined in order to ensure a logical sequence and coherence among these aspects, responding to the rigor that implies a doctoral thesis proposal. Based on the research problem definition, it is argued that the logistical coordination for the disaster preparedness is an area of interest that justifies the development of a research project.
