International perspectives on praxis in higher education (pedagogy)
Resumen
The Pedagogy, Education and Praxis (PEP) research to date has been addressing questions about praxis, praxis development, conditions for praxis, and research (through the five PEP research questions) in a range of educational contexts (e.g., VET, schools, teacher education, early-childhood education, and discipline-specific contexts). Yet relatively little has focused specifically on praxis in relation to the educational context in which we all work: higher education. We see this as an opportunity not only to build on the work already done by PEP researchers in this area (e.g., Hardy, Grootenboer & Bristol, 2016), but also to tap into the wealth of experience and insight of the PEP members who are making concerted efforts in their own institutions in their everyday academic work to enact and nurture praxis, and who have been thinking about praxis in HE for years, irrespective of their research activities. By turning the accumulated knowledge and efforts of PEP members toward the task of transforming higher education in a collaborative way, we stand not only to strengthen the PEP network as we learn and problem-solve together, but also to make a difference in new ways to higher education at a global level (through our collective praxis). Participatory action researchers from Australia, Sweden, Finland, Norway, The Netherlands and Colombia have been participating in several cross-national studies since 2005. Specifically, the Discourse Studies interinstitutional research group has participated since its creation. The Colombian participation in this project is aimed at promoting the participation of more action researchers from other Colombian universities. As a result of this, six participatory educational action researchers from four Colombian universities are engaged in this research process.
