CORROSION RESISTANCE OF NIOBIUM CARBIDE OBTAINED ON TOOL STEELS BY THERMO-REACTIVE DIFFUSION.--
Resumen
--We deposited niobium carbide (CNb) coatings on stainless steel AISI H13 and AISI D2 substrates through thermo-reactive deposition/diffusion (TRD) technique. The Carbides were obtained using salt baths composed of pentahidratide borax, aluminum and ferroniobium, and heating this mixture at 1050 °C for 4 hours. The chemical composition was determined by fluorescence of X-ray (XRF). The coatings were characterized morphologically by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and, the crystal structure was analyzed using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and the electrochemical behavior was studied through the potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). XRF analysis determined that the coatings contained 87.476 % wt of Nb (D2- substrate) and 51. 943 %wt of Nb (H13-substrate); the SEM images reveal that the morphology of the surface of the coatings is homogeneous; XRD allowed established that the coatings are polycrystalline and the electrochemical test has established that the corrosion resistance be increase slightly in the covered substrates.
