This project seeks to take advantage of the low-cost MEW platform co-developed by the Swiss PI, to print bio-compatible optical fibers and investigates their suitability as a sensor using the expertise in distributed fiber sensors from the teams in Switzerland and Chile and the knowledge in FBG sensors for medical applications from the team in Colombia. This collaboration aims to unlock the full potential of MEW-based fiber sensors for the medical field.
The objectives of the project are to explore the possibility of implementing sensors using the optical fibers fabricated with the MEW technology and exchanging knowledge and expertise among the international research groups to identify research gaps and collaboration opportunities. To achieve these goals, the research teams will fabricate these sensors and conduct performance tests. Finally, the suitability of the sensors created with the MEW platform will be evaluated for possible medical applications. |
