Conceptual evolution and practice of the Sand Management
Resumen
This paper is focused on understanding the conceptual evolution and practice of Sand Management through six conceptual stages. To achieve a comprehensive conceptualization, the geomechanical mechanisms that lead the sand production are presented at different scales. Additionally, the concept of ¿conservatism¿ into the models and approaches to the sanding risk is assumed throughout the analysis of passive and active methods for Sand Control. A strong relationship between oil prices and publications (papers about Sand Management and Sand Control) is found. At the core, sand management is the consideration of sand production not as a problem but as a phenomenon that demands a high study of the sanding¿s genesis and mechanisms. On the other hand, that phenomenal understanding is supplemented by risk assessment, which means, facing risk with management instead of avoiding sand influx as sand control does. Finally, throughout the paper, there is an effort to illustrate how the focus of technical literature and practices has changed its questions about sand management going through different stages of understanding. Thus, this paper helps the technical community to realize sand management from its historical conceptualization and its relationship with multiple external factors.
