With its aging populations, Latin America will soon confront the same economic and fiscal issues as current-day Europe – but at lower levels of economic development and in the presence of persistent and high levels of inequality. Through the use of a new comprehensive approach to measuring aggregate economic flows across age and time (National Transfer Accounts), we will assess the impact of changing age structures in 3 key areas: economic growth, equity (intergenerational and intragenerational), and sustainability of intergenerational support systems (via families, governments, and markets) for Colombia.
