--Voltage and Reactive power control is an ancillary service for the reliable, safe and high quality operation of electric power systems. The introduction of distributed resources to enhance quality, reliability and safety in energy supply, requires a series of technological changes that must take into account technical constraints necessary for the implementation of microgrids. This paper analyzes the technical advantages of using distributed resources for voltage and reactive power support services in microgrids and also discusses the economical benefits of these technologies in the provision of ancillary services. We claim that a distributed resource improves the voltage stability enhancing voltage levels and compensate reactive power in microgrids when energy demand has abrupt changes. This advantage can be used to remunerate or incentive deployment distributed resources in Colombia. |
