Economic growth, urbanization, and energy consumption have increased the demand for transportation, which in turn increases emissions. That is why an energy transition in the transport sector is necessary to guarantee mobility, minimize emissions and economic growth. The purpose of this article is to identify, through a bibliographic review, the conceptual and methodological state of the energy transition in transport. The review methodology is based on graph theory, which is why a network of citations was built for analysis. Electricity is the predominant energy source, although according to the mode of transport this may vary, biofuels are a close alternative, however, they only contribute to the reduction of emissions concerning the use of fossil fuels, natural gas is an affordable alternative in heavy transport, hydrogen is an alternative, but the development of recharging infrastructure can be expensive and is under development.
