Development of technologies for the production of valuable biobased fatty esters from agro-industrial residual streams
Resumen
The aim of this project is to develop suitable and resilient technologies for the valorisation of oleochemical waste streams via transformation into valuable Fatty Acid Esters (FAAE) using biobased catalysts. This involves the exploitation of highly Acid Oleochemical Streams (AOS), which represent major and problematic residues worldwide, using acid carbonaceous catalysts. Then, the aim of this project is to develop a technology for AOS exploitation via transformation into valuable fatty esters, using Starbon® catalysts using the hydrolysis-esterification approach. If successfully implemented, the technology will help boosting waste exploitation within the oleochemical industry, and will provide a broader range of industrial application for the Starbon® type materials. Also, the obtained fatty esters, could be considered third generation biobased products (with all their life cycle benefits), and they could replace traditional petrochemicals for a variety of applications, in a sustainable manner.
