I graduated in Bacteriology and Clinical Laboratory at the Universidad del Valle, Health Faculty, Department of Microbiology, Cali, Colombia, and after this I took a position as a research fellow in the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) them I obtained my Ph.D. in Microbiology in 2002 at the University of Chile, through the Scholarship German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). After this, I took the position of research fellow at the Molecular Epidemiologist, Colciencias project, Universidad de Córdoba, Institute of Investigation for Tropical Biology (HBT), Monteria, Colombia. Then I took a postdoctoral fellowship at the New York Medical College (NYMC), Department of Microbiology & Immunology. Valhalla. The USA in 2003. Since 2006 I am working at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Sede Medellín as a professor and researcher of Microbiology and Molecular Biology. I acquired further experience in research and teaching in Molecular Microbiology, during these years co-supervised and directed the research projects of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. I established and headed the Independent Microbiodiversity and Bioprospecting Group from 2008 until now. Since 2000 I have co-authored different articles in peer-reviewed journals, and book chapters and presented several posters at international and national conferences.
